Back to School: Middle School Makeup - 6th, 7th, 8th Grade

Hey guys! Back to School season is rapidly approaching so for the next few blog posts, I'll be showing you DIYs, tips, and tricks to make the school year easier and more fun!

For my first BTS post I thought I'd show you middle school makeup for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade. In middle school you're growing up and your interests may change a bit, and so might your appearance. You may start developing acne. The next thing you know, you're heading to the drug store for some makeup.

But what makeup is appropriate for a girl your age? In this post, I'll show you what I wore and what I believe is appropriate for middle school.

6th Grade

In 6th grade, your face is probably naturally beautiful already. But I began developing acne in 6th grade, so if this is your case here's what you can do:

What I use:

  • Maybelline BB Cream
  • EOS Coconut Milk Lip Balm

As you can see, for this look, I go very light. In 6th grade, when I asked my mom if I could start wearing makeup, she told me how naturally beautiful I already was. I was still young, so I really didn't need a lot of makeup. Around that time, however, acne was really getting on my nerves.

For my makeup, I used a bit of BB cream and some lip balm to moisturize my lips. The BB cream gave me just the amount of coverage I needed without looking like I had a ton of makeup on.

My completed 6th grade makeup look!

7th Grade

Moving on to 7th grade, you're getting older. Your eyes may seem a little dull, and you may wanna upgrade your makeup routine to a bit of a more mature level.

What I use:

  • Maybelline BB Cream
  • EOS Coconut Milk Lip Balm
  • Magenta Mint Mentha Lip Tint (from Bath & Body Works)
  • Physician's Formula Organic Wear Jumbo Lash Mascara
  • Maybelline Press Powder

Adding on the the 6th grade makeup, this lip gloss is a great way to look a bit older while keeping the makeup nice and light. Also, 7th grade was when I started using mascara. I love the Physician's Formula mascara because it's not synthetic, it's organic, and it last's a long time and looks great. One thin coat should do the trick for your lashes. Another thing I did (and forgot to photograph) was use a press powder to matte-ify the BB Cream.

My completed 7th grade makeup look!

8th Grade Makeup

Whew, 8th grade! Being the oldest in middle school, you can add a bit more makeup to your routine. Here's the look:

What I use:

  • Maybelline BB Cream
  • EOS Coconut Milk Lip Balm
  • Magenta Mint Mentha Lip Tint
  • Physician's Formula Organic Wear Jumbo Lash Mascara
  • Maybelline Press Powder
  • Physician's Formula Organic Wear 2-in-1 Pink Rose Blush & Bronzer Palette
  • NYX Adorable Eyeshadow Palette
  • Neutrogena Concealer Stick

For this look, I first apply my BB Cream. Because you may have more acne and dark circles in 8th grade, it may help to use a concealer stick under your eyes and on any red spots on your face. Next, I apply my press powder (which, again, I forgot to photograph). For the eyes, you can use some white eyeshadow on the inner corners and a brown chocolate-colored eyeshadow on the outer corners, then apply your mascara. I also used the Physician's Formula Pink Rose blush, which comes in a 2-in-1 blush and bronzer thing (I forgot to photograph that too!). Last but not least, I used the Magenta Mint lip gloss again.

My completed 8th grade makeup look!

So those are my middle school makeup looks. When I first started wearing makeup, I didn't have the slightest clue what I was doing. I was so scared of going overboard with it all. Luckily, my mom helped me out. In the end, these looks are what I decided were appropriate for someone in middle school to wear to school.

I hope you enjoyed this. If you'd like more Back to School or makeup-related blog posts in the future, let me know!

Where Have I Been?

Lately I haven't been very active on YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, and pretty much every other thing having to do with Curly Girly. Why? What have I been up to?

The short answer? Well... there really is no short answer.

The whole thing kinda started with photography. I was maintaining YouTube pretty well, but then I started getting into photography, especially nature photography, and I started slowing down the amount of videos I posted on my channel. Eventually I decided to open a photography business with my dad. I started designing a website for our new business, and my mom asked me to design one for her business as well. So all of this web designing was very time-consuming! :)

Alongside that, a couple of weeks ago we adopted our third dog (more on him later!). He's a chocolate lab from the humane society, and when we got him he was slightly overweight and needed some training. I volunteer at the humane society often so I'm pretty well experienced with training dogs, so now I've become one of his main caretakers and I've been clicker training him and helping to get him back into shape.

That's basically an overview of what I've been up to lately... As hard as it is for me to say, I'm going to discontinue making YouTube videos - at least for a while. I'm hoping at some point I'll be able to rebuild my channel and get off to a better start, but for now I think this is what's best for me.

But hold up!!

Before you give up on me completely, I won't go away entirely. I'm totally going to continue maintaining my blog. I'll post more frequently and have more of a variety of the types of things that I post. I'll get back onto social media, and you'll hear from me more often. The only difference is that, at least for now, there won't be any YouTube videos from me.

I'm really sorry about all of my inactivity. But definitely stay tuned for more frequent blog posts, which I will be doing in place of my YouTube videos! Back to School season is coming up (booooooooo!!!) so I have some fun upcoming blog posts that will hopefully make school seem a little less torturous (yaaaaaaay!!!).

Chocolate-Covered Fruit Kabobs

Craving a chilled sweet treat this summer? Try out these super delicious Chocolate-Covered Fruit Kabobs! These taste so amazing and take literally no time at all. Here's how it's done:

(Makes 2)
Ingredients & Supplies:
  • 1 Banana
  • Several Strawberries
  • 1 Clementine Orange
  • 2 Skewers
  • 1 Dark Chocolate Bar

How to Make Them:

  1. Wash your strawberries and cut off the stems. My strawberries look a little tiny and misshapen because we grew them in our garden. :)

     2. Next, wash your clementine, peel away the skin, and pull out the little orange wedges.

     3. Now, peel your banana and slice it up.

     4. Stick the skewer through the cut-up fruit. I like to put the fruit on in a pattern, but that's just me being a perfectionist. :)

     5. When you finish, break the chocolate bar into fourths and melt it in the microwave. Be very careful, because it's very easy to burn chocolate in a microwave. (And I know from personal experience that burned chocolate does NOT taste very good.) After the chocolate is melted, use a spoon to drizzle it over the fruit kabobs.

     6. As an optional touch, I added some sprinkles. If you prefer, you can also use nuts or shredded coconut as an alternative topping.

     7. After the preparation is complete, stick your fruit kabobs in the fridge for about 15 - 20 minutes to harden the chocolate and enjoy!

A Day in My Life ~ Memorial Day Weekend

Hello everybody! I hope you're taking advantage of the long Memorial Day weekend! ;)

So I'm sure you've noticed that I've been very inactive lately... I've been really really busy with schoolwork as the end of the school year approaches. I haven't had any time to film, blog, or even post to Instagram or Facebook! I'm super sorry guys. To make up for it, I'm doing a special post for you today.

Today's post features a day in my life - basically, I'm going to show you what I did on this fine Sunday, and I'm sure you can tell that we're really enjoying the warm weekend. :) So here goes! Here's a day in my life...

8:00 am ~ "GOOD MORNIN' YOU YOU!!!"

2:00ish pm ~ We headed over to a local lake and brought fishing rods and our new canoe.

2:15 pm ~ One thing you may not know about me is that I love to fish. There were tons
of fish in the water, but I was fishing for a long time, with no luck!

Around 3:00 pm ~ He caught one!

About 3:15 pm ~ There were tons of waterlilies in the lake... they'll bloom any day now!

4:15 pm ~ Fishing from the dock.

Around 4:15 pm ~ I took a panorama of a portion of the lake from the dock. It was so peaceful.

4:20 pm ~ While you wait for your parents to strap the canoe to the car, you play Minecraft.
(Yes, I'm aware of how out-of-proportion my house looks... let's just say it looks better on the inside)

5:20 pm ~ After we got home I decided to have some downtime and work on some stuff for you guys... ;)

7:00 pm ~ We decided to have dinner and make s'mores in our backyard. All that fishing really leaves
a big appetite!

7:00 pm ~ The perfect roasted marshmallow...

9:00 pm ~ Aaaaaaand that brings a close to a day in my Memorial Day weekend.

It's been a busy and fun day today - it's so fun having a long weekend to do things you don't normally get the chance to do! What are your Memorial Day plans? I'd love to here from you!

If you would like to see more "A Day in My Life" posts, I had a lot of fun making this so stay tuned for more! Maybe I'll post one onto YouTube at some point... Anyways, I'll try to be more active and post more often again, and I'll try to get a new video up for ya soon! See you later!

DIY Sharpie Tie Dye Tees

Hi all! I hope you've had a good weekend. This week I uploaded a tutorial perfect for spring: how to do tie dye using Sharpies! This is literally one of my favorite DIYs ever, Click below to view...

One thing I forgot to mention...

How to Take Care of Your Finished Tie Dye Shirt

~ When you finish your shirt, throw it in the dryer on normal heat. This will help the Sharpies to settle into the shirt so that they don't wash away when you wash it. (CAUTION: Make sure your shirt is COMPLETELY DRY before putting it in the dryer. Rubbing alcohol is flammable.)

~ Machine wash cold with like colors. (But I recommend washing alone the first time. This may help prevent fading.)

~ Dry on regular heat.

~ Iron if necessary.

That's pretty much it. Once you wash your shirt for the first time you can pretty much treat it like you would treat any other shirt. The colors will most likely fade a little bit, but if you follow the steps above it will never fade completely. I have a Sharpie tie dye shirt that I made over a year ago and the colors and patterns are still plainly recognizable. :)
